Order 5 lbs. and get one pound free. We usually harvest white oak, red oak, and chestnut oak acorns in the fall. We can offer shelled nuts that have been boiled to remove the tannic acid and are ready to roast or grind for meal for $25.00/lb plus shipping. Minimum order is 1 lb.

 

If you prefer the acorn meal we can offer it for $30.00/lb. plus shipping. It takes an entire day to process whole acorns into meal.

It takes approximately 100 seeds to make one pound of shelled nut meats. Pignut Hickory - Takes about 200 seeds or 2 pounds to make one pound of shelled nuts. It generally takes at least 4 hours to shell a pound of hickory nuts. The flavor is buttery, flavorful and rich. Native Americans would grind up the nut meats and add it to boiling water to make "hickory milk."  The nuts make an excellent addition to any desert recipe requiring nuts.

Buying and storing tips

For maximum freshness unshelled hickory nuts offers the best solution. Store shelled hickory nuts in the refrigerator or freezer for up to two months. Whole nuts can be frozen for up to two years.

Soak nuts in very hot water at least one hour before cracking.
